Easter Bunny Activities Are Hopping This Spring Weekend

From egg hunts to visits from the Bunny himself (or herself), Easter events are but a few of the many options for families this weekend.

 

Whether you're in search of something fun to do with the kids or you have a babysitter and are planning a night out, look no further because Patch editors have picked a variety of events taking place today and tomorrow to help you make the most of your weekend. Orange: Parents' Night Out

Where: My Gym Orange, 391 Boston Post Road

Cost: $25 for the first child, $10 per sibling

Description: Non-members welcome. This is a 3 hour fun-filled drop off for children of potty-trained age to age 9. Staff handles everything while you go enjoy a well-deserved evening off. Children will wear white to experience black light excitement, glow sticks and other glow-in-the dark themed activities.

Orange: Easter Egg Hunt

Where: High Plains Community Center, 525 Orange Center Road

When: Saturday, March 23, 12:30 p.m.

Cost: Free

Description: The Easter Bunny will arrive at 12:30 p.m. one half-hour before the start of the Easter Egg Hunt itself. There will be face painting for the children, and hot coffee for the adults. In case of inclement weather, a rain or snow date is set for Saturday, March 30.

Where: Bethany Town Hall, 40 Peck Rd.

When: Saturday, March 23, 6 p.m.

Cost: $12 for adults, $8 for seniors, and $6 for children 12 and under.

Description: Citizens of the Year Guy and Judy Yale will be honored. Wine and cheese is served at 6 p.m. with dinner beginning at 7 p.m. There will be both a silent and a live auction.

Bethel: 2nd Annual Bethel Blooms

Description: An Easter egg hunt, pictures with the Easter bunny and a community marketplace will take place.

Description: Soul Focus is a full-service wellness and awareness center a wide variety of spiritual health services for all ages in Bethel.

Bethel: Ecumenical Blessing of the Palms

Where: Clifford J. Hurgin Municipal Center, 1 School St.

Description: All members of the Bethel community are invited to join the First Congregational Church of Bethel, United Methodist Church and St. Thomas Episcopla churches as they gather for a brief service celebrating Palm Sunday.

Description: "Essentially a variety show with diversity that gives it a uniqueness that is hard to describe."

Description: "This band of Irish rockers blows up yesterday's reedy, tweedy, Irish Spring image and grinds it into your face."

Georgetown: A Mindful Oasis in Turbulent Times

Where: Blackbird Yoga & Healing Arts Center, 28 Main St.

Cost: Donations gratefully accepted

Description: Join Buddhist monk Bhante Wimala for an afternoon of meditation and insightful discussion about transmuting pain and suffering and manifesting positive changes in your life.

Middlebury: Breakfast with the Easter Bunny

Where: Shepardson Community Center, 1172 Whittemore Rd.

When: Saturday, March 23, 8:30 a.m.

Cost: $7 for 6 years and up; $5 for 5-2 year olds and children under 2 years old eat free. There’s a $25 per household maximum.

Description: Families are invited to indulge in freshly cooked pancakes, bacon or sausage, coffee, tea and juice and other assorted pastries. Be sure to bring cameras to take pictures of your children with the Easter Bunny. Treats for Troops is also taking place. People may bring items for troops serving in Afghanistan. New Canaan: Easter Egg Hunt

Where: New Canaan High School, 11 Farm Rd, New Canaan

When: Saturday, March 23, event starts at 9:30 a.m., hunt at 10:40 a.m.

Cost: Free to enter, tickets for activities must be purchased.

Description: The New Canaan Women’s League stuffs 10,000 eggs with candy for this hunt, which also features a visit from the Easter Bunny, live music, baked goods, bouncy castles and more.

Description: Calling all children. Come meet the Easter Bunny and bring a basket to gather the eggs. Each one has a treat inside. This event will take place rain or shine. A brunch/lunch menu will be served all day and jazz music will be played from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Stratford: Winter Wine Down to Support the Stratford Dog Park

Where: 946 Ferry Blvd.

Description: Sample fine wines from different regions. If you purchase a bottle, a portion of the sale will be donated to the dog park. A silent auction will take place. Food from Riverview Bistro will be served and DJ Wacko Jacko will be spinning all the tunes on the dance floor.

Wilton: Spring Celebration and Egg Hunt

Where: Woodcock Nature Center, 56 Deer Run Rd.

Description: First, a hayride will take parents and children to an egg-hunting hike on the trails. After each child collects eggs, everyone walks to the pavilion, where families will color their eggs and create seasonal nature crafts to celebrate the arrival of spring. The raindate is Sunday, March 24.

Wilton: Chamber Chorus Concert

Where: Wilton Presbyterian Church, 48 New Canaan Rd.

When: Sunday, March 24, 3 p.m.

Cost: $20

Description: The Music on the Hill Chamber Chorus, a professional vocal ensemble, performs  a concert, "There Will Be Joy," featuring Randall Thompson's "The Peaceable Kingdom" and Peter Klatzow's "Prayers of Praise from Africa" with text from Desmond Tutu's An African Prayer Book. The chorus will perform a cappella, taking advantage of the venue's vibrant acoustics.  Ellen Dickinson, Music on the Hill co-artistic director, conducts.

Woodbridge: Fire Safety & Prevention Day In Memory of Eva Ryan Block

Description: Learn fire safety and prevention, proper installation and placement of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and how and when to use fire extinguishers. Description: Wear your prettiest or funniest spring bonnet and come join the Easter Bunny at The Hollow. Take your child's photo before or after the race to fill their basket with chocolate eggs hidden in the park. This event is rain or shine.

Description: Beatrix Farrand (1872-1959) was America’s first female landscape architect and a founding member of the American Society of Landscape Architects. Though overlooked for decades, her work is being rediscovered. This talk is a dramatic, 45-minute, first person presentation of the life, times and work of this distinguished 'landscape gardener.'
