Conn. Men More Likely to Use Phone While Driving

There are more women on the road, but men are more likely to get ticketed.

An investigation by the Associated Press found that Connecticut men are much more likely to use their cell phone while driving than women - at according to ticketing information.

Although women are the slight majority amongst the state’s 2.5 million drivers, men reportedly receive 52-54 percent of distracted driving tickets. The investigation looked at annual numbers beginning in 2006.

Drivers caught using their cell phones are subject to a $125 fine the first time, which doubles to $250 for the second offense. According to the recently-ticketed Patrick Michael, the Branford resident was not surprised that women get ticketed less often.
