Church Embezzler's Sentencing Continued for Fourth Time

George P. Loles admitted he stole millions from St. Barbara's Greek Orthodox Church and other investors.

An Easton man who is accused of bilking investors out of $10 million, including $2.1 million from St. Barbara’s Greek Orthodox Church in Orange, is deeply remorseful, his lawyer told a federal judge this week.

According to an article by the New Haven Register, when George P. Loles, 53, appeared in federal court in Hartford on Monday, his lawyer, Jeremiah Donovan, called Loles a “broken” man whose been abandoned by his family and friends.

Loles has pleaded guilty to wire fraud, security fraud, mail fraud and money laundering and faces eight to 14 years in prison. This week, his sentencing was continued for the fourth time.
