Orange Dentist's Experience Supports NYU Study

The results of a new NYU study that show a correlation between pregnancy and tooth loss came as no surprise to Nicholas Calcaterra.

A dentist with Calcaterra and Becker DDS, he says the study's results are consistent with their observations in treating hundreds of mothers — both pre-baby and once the little ones have been born.

"Changes in oral health in pregnant women are often times first detected in routine dental hygiene visits by our Hygienists Kathy and Kaylin," Calcaterra writes in his blog on his website. "Then we end up observing dental problems during the later phases of the pregnancy and then after childbirth."

In his post, Calcaterra goes on to describe some of the many ways pregnancy can affect oral hygiene.

The dental office, located at 291 South Lambert Road Suite 1 in Orange, can be reached at 203-799 2929.
