Milford-Based Radio Stations Are Up for Sale

STAR 99.9 and 99.1 PLR are two of the Milford-based radio stations currently on the market. What should become of them?

As Cox Media Group's Kristin Okesson confirmed, four Southern Connecticut radio stations are up for sale, including STAR 99.9, 99.1 PLR, 95.9 The Fox, and the rights to sell WYBC, owned by Yale.

While each of these stations transmit out of different locations in Connecticut (Bridgeport, Norwalk), their offices are located on Wheelers Farm Road in Milford.

If these stations are sold, there is a chance their formats could change. This is not an unusual occurrence in Connecticut. Over the years, for example, 104.1 has changed from an alternative rock format to hip-hop and back again.

We pose the question to you: What would you like to see become of the stations STAR 99.9 and 99.1 PLR? What type of radio are you missing from your life?

Do you want a station to play Adele 24/7? Should a channel on your radio be dedicated to the standards of Cole Porter and Frank Sinatra? Do you want more adventurous (MGMT) and local acts (Milford's own Twice Around) to have a shot further up the radio dial? Do you want more talk radio? Another NPR station? Or has internet radio, Pandora and Spotify deemed local radio stations useless for you?

Let us know in the comments section about what you'd like to see become of these radio stations that are up for sale. Also, if you'd like things to stay exactly as they are, let us know that, too.

I agree with CS---- Chaz, AJ and Megan are great! If they go, I go, too. It's nice to wake up in the morning with a little humor. As far as the music, same old songs played--everyone might as well listen to their own iPods. After 10:00 am, I'm gone! Personally, I would love some oldies, but also some new stuff.

I would suggest that some people just relax...PLR has a good format and considering their ratings performance, I would not see any issue with a new owner changing it dramatically. Unless of course it's purchased by the Westboro Baptist Church..

Me too! I still have my "NO DEE, NO MEE" T-shirt and haven't listened to 104.1 since they got rid of Dee Snider. Chaz & AJ are really the only thing I listen to on PLR anymore. I like the other DJs, but the music is always the same. Not that it all sucks, but SOME new stuff, SOME heavier stuff...would be nice. Ditch the rotation! ~The Dog Lady
