Headed to Orange: Chef's Equipment Emporium On The Way

Get a look at the new tenants on the Boston Post Road.

The Property: 449 Boston Post Road. Just next to Bank of America, almost on the intersection of Orange Center Road, the location is prime Post Road real estate. Formerly the location of Murphy & McCoy's Furniture and La-Z-Boy Furniture.

The New Tenants: Chef's Equipment Emporium, a cooking supply store based in Wallingford and Berlin. Open to the public, their motto is "When you think cooking, think Chef's." According to the Chef's Equipment Emporium website, Chef's has been in business for 40 years and started as DeMartino Store Fixture. Geared toward both home and professional chefs, they offer "high quality cookware, cutlery, bakeware, small kitchen electrics, residential cooking equipment, gourmet food and ingredients and gadgets, gadgets and more gadgets," according to their web site. The family business is run by Dominick and Michele DeMartino, according to the site.

The Business Side: The Commercial Record reports owners CEE Orange, LLC paid $1.45 million for the property.

"I am so truly excited to have Chef's relocating to Orange," said First Selectman Jim Zeoli in a statement published by the Commercial Record. "This is a fit that currently does not exist in Orange and will offer easy accessibility to both the commercial chef and the homeowners that are looking for commercial quality in a new kitchen or remodel."

Chef's has been well-received in other towns: their location in Berlin  (possibly in part because it beat out an adult store called Very Intimate Pleasures.)

When Can I Go? According to Orange Economic Development, within October or November. Interior renovation is well underway at the site, and the Chef's logo recently went up in the front and side windows. (See photo.)

Donna After reading the comments about the new Chef's Equipment Emporium in Orange, I think that the people who are bitter and negative and what I call just ignorant and positively jealous of what and who Ms. Michele DeMartino is...Look at your life, are you truly happy, my guess is NO! SHARKS just feed but they never are satisfied! Ya I guess the JOKES on YOU!..... I love that girl, her smile and laugh, that's something money can't buy and you can never take it from her! XOXO

Whooo holy comments LOL I'm home recovering today and I came to this article. The comments were more entertaining than the article! I need Xmas gift and was curious so I called the 3 locations. No one answered at the Orange location. I wasn't able to get much information from the Berlin location other than they are in NO Way and they empahized No Way affiliated with the Orange location therefore, gift cards & returns from Orange will NOT be exchangeable in the Berlin or Wallingford or vice versa. I then call the Wallingford location. Upon calling the Wallingford location they reiterated both Berlin and Wallingford have zero affilicaiton with the Orange location. I explained to the associate I was heading down to do some shopping in a week, I'm from the Valley I asked could giftcards be redeemed in Orange. I was told No! I asked about what was going on with the company and they had NO comment. So I asked why are they all using the same name and the woman chuckled and said " I honestly don't know " . I told her I found it very confusing to have two stores affilated and one not, yet they're all DBA Chefs. I am not happy about the closest location being independant of the others but honesly I can't frequent the high end kitchen stores so when I do it will be a road trip Home Goods, Chef's and Vinny's.

I stopped in recently and was very disappointed with their selection of bean grinders and pasta machine attachments. Pretty sad that a department store(Target) has a more extensive selection of grinders. The prices on what they did have in those 2 product lines were not competitive with other brick and mortar stores either.

I live in the Valley and have never visited the Wallingford or Berlin store. I truly enjoyed my two visits to the Orange store and found the employees very friendly and anxious to help. I expected the items to be pricey compared to the big box stores, but I was not at all dissapointed in the quality. The only complaint I had is that I just couldn't take in all that the store offers. I'm very happy with the store and wish the owners all the blessings for a long and fruitful tenure in Orange. Ron East
