Drive-Thru Plans Rolling for Orange Starbucks

Getting your Starbucks fix on the go could get a lot easier if the town looks favorably upon an application to put in a drive-thru at the Boston Post Road business.

The plan is expected to go before the Town Plan and Zoning Commission next week. It got a preliminary green light Monday from the Traffic Authority.

According to Laura Betlow, Starbuck's permit consultant in Connecticut, the plans reflect input gathered during three preliminary meetings with town officials — specifically, drainage, the flow of vehicles, and pedestrian safety.

As proposed, the drive-thru would wind its way around the back of the existing building and no new egresses would be created onto Peck Lane or Route 1. The drive-thru lane can accomodate a queue of about a dozen vehicles, Betlow said. She added that features like railings and brightly-painted directional signs on the pavement work together to enhance pedestrian safety.

Of the plans, Orange Police Chief Robert Gagne said, "I think it's acceptable as is."
