CANCELLED: Ale House and SOaRINg Have to Cancel Dinner Plans

A community organization and local business hoped to make Thanksgiving Day a memorable one for the less fortunate.

Jim Hassenmayer of the Orange Ale House and Vin and Deb Marino of Saving Orange Residents in Need (SOaRINg) jointly announced that a Thanksgiving Dinner will be made available on Thanksgiving Day between 11:30 a.m. and  2 p.m. at the Orange Ale House, 517 Boston Post Road in Orange to any Orange resident in need or who may be alone on Thanksgiving.

Anyone who was interested was asked to Orange Community Services at 203-891-4788.

Unfortunately, on Tuesday, Hassenmayer called Community Services to determine how much food his cooks would have to prepare based on the number of people that signed up.

"We were ready for about 100 people or more," Hassenmayer said, "but only one family signed up, so we had to cancel."

Hassenmayer said his staff and family were excited about the "new tradition" but since so many people received free turkeys from Community Services, and the announcement about the Ale House/SOaRINg dinner went out so late, there wasn't adequate time to generate enough interest.

"We will offer it next year on Thanksgiving Day and everyone has a year's notice so they can plan to join us then," he said. "I'm disappointed, but, in a way, it's good, because this means people are taken care of this Thanksgiving."
