Two Years Later: Ashlie and Dave Remembered

A horrifying accident on June 13, 2009 still haunts many in Orange.

On Monday night about 50 people gathered for a quiet candlelight vigil near the road in front of Target where the promising lives of David Servin and Ashlie Krakowski came to a tragic end two years ago.

Poor decisions on a police officer's part lead to their deaths. What happened was, a large brawl erupted at Utopia Cafe 77 in West Haven on Friday, June 12, 2009, and West Haven Police asked for back up from Milford and Orange. Six people were arrested at the brawl.

About an hour later, Milford police officer Jason Anderson finished his assistance and headed home.

The 19-year-old sweethearts were returning to David's home, just one block away, when Anderson's Milford Police patrol car, which was speeding down the Boston Post Road in excess of 90 MPH slammed into Servin's Mazda as it turned onto Dogburn Road.

The investigation by most accounts, seemed to take forever, but it was made easier due to the fact that the event was recorded on the dash camera of a second Milford Police car that was following Anderson, capturing the images that haunt friends, family and others to this day.

Anderson suffered minor injuries and was treated at Yale New Haven Hospital.

The teens "never had a chance," friends said.

Both victims were graduates of Amity High School class of 2007.

Anderson lost his job and his case is still continuing in the court system.
