Power Outage Won't Spoil Halloween for One Family

Without power, they're going trick or treating in their family's neighborhood.

Cayleb Alvarez-James talked excitedly about his Halloween costume this morning while his parents planned how to make the most of the holiday since they are without power.

Cayleb, 3, is going to be Bumble Bee, the bright yellow robotic car from Transformers. "He's looking forward to it," his mother, Elizabeth Alvarez-James, said. "He loves Transformers. Loves them."

Elizabeth and her husband, Adam James, took Cayleb with them to for a hot cup of coffee. Like more than 800,000 residents across Connecticut, the Seymour residents are without power following an early season nor'easter.

The power outage also means that Elizabeth and Adam did not have to work today. Elizabeth is a Home Bound tutor for Wilton Public Schools and Adam is a physics teacher at Wilton High School; they found out school was closed at about 2 p.m. Sunday.

Their house, situated atop a hill, is without power and heat. It got pretty cold last night, Elizabeth said, but they stayed warm by wearing extra layers and piling on plenty of warm blankets. Cayleb wanted to start a camp fire in the house, but his parents know better.

Tonight, the family plans on going trick or treating in Stratford, where Adam's parents live. Cayleb is looking forward to sporting his costume and scoring some treats.
