Milford / Orange Good Scout Luncheon

Honoring John A. Beirne, Jr. and Joseph Cuzzocreo

The Boy Scouts Connecticut Yankee Council for Milford and Orange presented the 'Good Scout' award to two recipients at the Costa-Azzura Restaurant in Milford On June 1.

This year's honorees were John Beirne, Jr. of Milford and Joseph Cuzzocreo of Orange, for their outstanding involvement within their communities.

The 'Good Scout' Award is presented to those who exemplify in their daily lives the ideals of the Boy Scouts of America as expressed in the Scout Oath and Law.  The recipients are chosen for their outstanding community service as evidenced by the interest and leadership given to many worthwhile organizations as well as the respect and esteem in which they are held by their colleagues.

Eagle Scout Robert Brown from Turkey Hill School PTA Troop 925, Orange was the Master of Ceremonies for the event.  He was honored with the Scout Speaker Award for his participation.

John A. Beirne, Jr. of Milford has been employed by Merrill Lynch since 1966.  He has been a member of Investment Management Consultants Association (IMCA) since 1987.  John received the Business Person of the Year Award in 1986 by the Milford Chamber of Commerce.  He is a trustee at the Hamden Hall Country Day School in Hamden, where his responsibilities include monitoring the school's endowment fund.  John is a board member of the First Tee of Connecticut and has specialized in Public Pension Fund Management for over 30 years.

Joseph Cuzzocreo of Orange has been a resident of the town for virtually his entire life.  After serving four and a half years in the Army, Joe and his brother opened a construction company in Orange and in 1958 he purchased the Orange Fence Company from his father.  He sold it to his son in the late 90's.  Joe has served for 47 years on the Town of Orange Police Commission and has served as a volunteer fireman.
