Memorial Day Parade Scheduled

The Memorial Day Committee has released its Memorial Day Ceremony agenda.

The annual Town of Orange Memorial Day Ceremonies and Parade will be held on Sunday, May 29.

Once again, Kevin Gilbert is the Parade Organizer. Parade ceremonies will commence promptly at 10:30 a.m. at the High Plains Community Center fairgrounds. 

The parade will step off immediately following the ceremony down Orange Center Road past the reviewing stand with services following at the Orange Center Cemetery.

Grand Marshal

George G.  Posener will be the Grand Marshal this year. He will celebrate his 100th birthday on December 25.   He served during World War  II.  Due to his engineering skills, he was retained by the War Department as a civilian worker.

He was an ordinance inspector redesigning weapons, inspecting ballistic tests and transporting arms in New Haven during the war. He is a retired insurance company owner and has given away close to $1 million in endowments to the Yale School of Medicine and numerous causes for children.      

Honorary Chief of Staff

Ernest C. Kirchberg will be the Honorary Chief of Staff.  He is 88 years old and a World War II Army Veteran who served from 1943-1946 as a Sergeant Tech 4.      

Honored Veteran

Dominick  L. “Mickey” Morazzini will be the Honored Veteran. He is 86 years old and a World War II Navy Veteran who served from 1943-1946 as a Seaman First Class.

Keynote Speaker

The keynote speaker will be Gilbert W. Sanborn, civilian aide to the Secretary of the Army for the State of Connecticut.       

Master of Ceremonies

Robert Mirto, Esq., Town Meeting Moderator, will serve as Master of Ceremonies.

Parade Announcer

Vincent Marino, Esq., Town Counsel, will serve as Parade Announcer.

The Committee invites the public to join in honoring our nation’s veterans. In the event of rain, the ceremony will take place in the High Plains Community Center Gym.
