Nearly 6,000 Attend Successful LAMP Event
On Friday October 4th the third annual Light Artists Making Places New England’s Premier Light Event lit up New Haven’s historical 9th district. 9Arts, with support from Connecticut Office of the Arts, New Haven’s Office of Art, Culture and Tourism and Projects 2K, hosted national and regional light projection artists and a variety of performers, music and community participants as they joined forces with the merchants of the Ninth Square to present the third annual L.A.M.P. event.
L.A.M.P. doubled in size this year so the event included over 80 artists in 20 sites within a two-block radius, each hosting a unique performance or night and light driven installation. The recorded attendance reached between five and six thousand visitors.

L.A.M.P. artists projected illuminations using new and old technology with a variety of projection devices. Highlights included an installation by world-renowned artist Vicki DaSilva, a special installation celebrating Connecticut’s own Projects 2K and a live performance by Mark Mulchay. This event commemorated the 375th birthday of the city and captured the spirit and history of New Haven’s “Phantom Ship.”
L.A.M.P’s light event also marked the beginning of Artspace’s month-long annual City-Wide Open Studios where artists across the city opened their studios to the public. Additionally, the works of artists across New England were presented in various locations throughout the city. October 4th was also On9’s kick off monthly First Friday event where three new businesses celebrated joining New Haven’s thriving Ninth Square neighborhood. The grand openings of Meat & Co., Inspired Turkey and Giampietro Gallery took place during the latest “On9” festivities in the district.

"It was a beautiful niight and it was so nice to see all the people out enjoying everything this event had to offer” says Denise Lysak from Reynolds Fine Arts. “We can't wait for next year! It was a great way to bring attention to the businesses in the Ninth Square.”
New Haven’s Historic 9th Square neighborhood is famous for art, food, music, and innovation and provides the backdrop for 1st Fridays On9. 1st Fridays On9 is a collaborative open-house evenings happening from April through December 2013 and featuring creative events to spark vitality in the shops, eateries, residences, cultural arts centers in the historic 9th Square neighborhood.
