BOKS coming to Orange Elementary Schools!!

Before School Exercise Program

The Orange Elementary system is happy to announce that they will be offering BOKS (Build Our Kids’ Success) in our elementary schools this year.  The BOKS program is a before-school, physical activity program designed to jump start kids' brains and prepare them for a day of learning.

The program combines play, physical activity, team games, and short talks on nutrition to create healthier habits for children to achieve life-long fitness.  Evidence suggests that kids who exercise regularly perform better in school and, conversely, that a lack of exercise and poor eating habits have a negative impact on performance in the classroom and contribute to health problems.

BOKS will start a half hour before school and run twice a week, beginning in October and continue for 6 - 8 weeks at Race Brook School and Turkey Hill School.  The program will be offered again at all three elementary schools in the spring.  It is supervised completely by volunteers, and all the schools are looking for parents and teachers to join in and help show the kids, by example, how to start our days in a positive, energetic way.  Thanks to Connecticut Speed School for their generous donations to help get the BOKS program up and running in the schools.
