Mary Botsolas Sekas, age 90, of Orange, entered into eternal rest on Jan. 25, 2012.
Born in Perth Amboy, NJ on Sept. 26, 1921. She was the wife of the late Paul J. Sekas. They were married on Oct. 7, 1945, and moved to New Haven in 1946.
While raising their children, Mary became involved in community activities. She was a President of the Parent Teachers Association of Welch School, and served as a Corresponding Secretary of the Ladies Philoptochos Society of St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church.
Mary was always known for her artistic abilities and was able to realize her dream of becoming an art teacher.
She graduated from Southern Connecticut State College, with a B.S., in Art Education, in 1968, and received a MS Certificate, in 1976. Initially she taught art in the Cheshire elementary schools, and then taught at Hamden High School, for 13 years, before retiring.
In her retirement, she continued to design and construct stained glass works of art.
Mary is survived by her children, Gail Sekas Paul and husband Harry of Wexford, PA, Lee Sekas of Wethersfield ,CT, and Mark Sekas and wife Roberta of Orange, CT; by her grandsons Paul G. Sekas and fiance Alexandra Gizhitsa of Farmington, CT, and Michael J. Sekas of Orange, CT; and by her sister, Irene Lionikis and husband George of Colonia, NJ; and by numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband, of 51 years, Paul J. Sekas, her parents John and Afrodite Botsolas, sisters Calliope Menedis and Connie Botsolas, and brothers Christos and Phillip Botsolas.
She is also survived by numerous Sekas in-laws; her special relatives, Eva Kitsos, George Kitsos and wife Ludmilla, Mary and Peter Anastation, Nick Lefkimiates and wife Margaret, Richard Paige and wife Judi, Elizabeth Laden and Mark Roman; and by her neighbors and many friends who were all so good to her.
Friends may call at The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. (cor. Dwight) New Haven, Friday (TODAY) from 4 to 8 pm. Funeral services in St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, 480 Racebrook Road, Orange, Saturday morning at 10:00. Interment in Orange Cemetery, Orange.
