Letter to the Editor: Town of Orange Steps up after Hurricane Sandy

Hurricane Sandy is now a memory, everyone in Orange has their power back on and most have moved on with their lives, but there are some town departments that deserve some recognition.
I'd like to give thanks to the Public Works crews for clearing the roads right after the storm and recently picking up brush stacked at the side of the road, as well as staffing the transfer station on Sundays. We had several 60 ft pines come down on our property and it at least gave me a start on cleaning that up.

The folks that staffed the High Plains Community Center did great work, especially with elderly residents that had no power and needed a place to stay, kudos to them.
A big pat on the back should also go to the staff at the Case Memorial Library. They welcomed in the community, even opening early when they saw many cars in the parking lot to use their wi-fi, recharge electronics and warm up. My wife and I spent parts of 3 days there.
Also a big thanks to the utility workers from near and far that worked very hard to reconnect us to the grid.
I was in Staten Island on November 10 delivering hurricane relief supplies, the devastation is much worse than it appears on TV, it will be years before they recover.
We in Orange were very lucky.
