Thank You: Kisses from Katie Fund-Raiser (with video)

Chip's event was a huge success.

The fund-raiser for Kisses from Katie, Inc., that took place at Chip's in Orange Tuesday night, was a huge success, according to the organization's founder.  The event raised $2,000 for the cause.

Alan and Vickie Manning, of Milford, founded the organization in honor of their daughter Katie who died of a rare heart problem, in 2009.  The main purpose of Kisses from Katie, Inc., is to help families who are going through what they had experienced, through technology. Everyone who works for the organization is on a volunteer basis so 100% of the proceeds go directly to the cause.

At the hospitals, parents can do research on their child's condition, using laptop computers donated by the foundation. With this equipment the answers are right at their fingertips.

The foundation buys Wee Sights, which is a device that assists in finding veins on infants and small children, so the nurse doesn't need to keep poking them to put in an IV.

It provides Jump Drives on which all the critical information about their child's condition and medications can be loaded so parents can take with them along in an emergency situation, and they only need to give the drive to the doctor.

The foundation also gives Helping Hearts pillows;  Homemade pillows used to brighten the patient's day and serve as a prop for support, rather than using the child's favorite toy.

Participating Hospitals are:

Yale New Haven Children's Hospital

Bridgeport Hospital

Bay State Hospital, Springfield Mass.

Maria Fareri Hospital, Westchester

Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP)

The organization accepts donations through it's website Kisses from Katie or by mail to Kisses from Katie, P.O. Box 3378, Milford, CT 06460.
