An Easter Miracle

Photographer surprised with the opportunity of a lifetime.

Easter Sunday was a beautiful day. The sun was shining, and for a photographer, the lighting was perfect for scenic shots.

Michael McGeehan of Ansonia was wandering around Shamrock Farm on Lambert Road with his SLR digital camera, taking photos of the sheep, ducks, dogs and cows.

Jim Zeoli was attending to customers in the farm stand, selling Easter flowers to all the last minute shoppers on their way to Easter Dinner with family or friends, when McGeehan asked if he could go inside the field where a cow was in labor.

Zeoli had been keeping a close eye on the cow, as an Easter birth was iminent. He told the young photographer to go ahead, but to be careful of the dogs.

When a customer pulled down the driveway, McGeehan and Zeoli turned to look, and when they turned back around the calf was on the ground.

Keeping a respectable distance, McGeehan started taking photos of the white faced calf as his mother cleaned him off.

McGeehan said he'd never seen anything like it and the best part was hearing the calf make his first "Moo."

I left with my potted plant moments before this miracle happened. Thank you Michael for sharing your story and photos. Zeoli said a second calf was born about three hours later, both of them are male.
